Another preseason game is in the books, and we sure did see a lot from the Cowboys.
It was unfortunately an injury-filled game, but thankfully it reached a merciful end. Here are some of the biggest moments that caused a variety of emotions. Let’s feel!
Rod Smith is 100% for real
Ezekiel Elliott was kept on the sidelines for this game (thankfully) which meant that Rod Smith got the start again. He definitely delivered as he racked up 49 yards on the night, but he did it in explosive fashion. We have an extremely viable RB2.
The Zack Martin injury destroyed whatever excitement there was
This was the first preseason game at home for the Cowboys this season which should have meant nothing but excitement. Unfortunately, all-everything guard Zack Martin was hurt early on and everyone was immediately devastated.
Dak Prescott had to move a bit
Prescott spent a surprising amount of time moving out of the pocket against Cincinnati. He ultimately threw one touchdown on the night to Terrance Williams, giving him two on the preseason, and of course it came after a bit of scrambling.
RANDY GREGORY AND SEAN LEE WERE ON THE SAME FIELD AGAIN
The last time Randy Gregory and Sean Lee shared snaps on the same field was the Monday Night Football contest against the Detroit Lions in 2016. They both showed reasons to be excited (to different levels), and this photo serves as proof that it actually happened.
Gregory got into heavy action early on
Randy Gregory is coming back from a long time away from football, but that didn’t stop him from mixing things up during his first bit of action back. Gregory clearly gave 100% effort, and it’s very fair to be excited what he can become down the road.
Chidobe Awuzie made the play of the preseason
At the end of the first half the number one cornerback on the Cowboys (that’s right) made one heck of a play. Chidobe Awuzie batted a pass down from way up above and rattled it into his arms once on the ground. It was similar to Jermaine Kearse’s catch in Super Bowl XLIV just, you know, in the preseason.
Jaylon Smith keeps giving us reasons to believe
Hopefully Jameill Showers is alright
On a night where it felt like every Cowboys player got hurt, perhaps no one’s looked more rough than Jameill Showers’. The quarterback turned safety had everybody hoping for the health of his knee, and we continue to do so now. Get better, Jameill.
Darius Jackson is making the RB3 conversation a very difficult one
Everybody is quick to fall in love with Bo Scarbrough, but don’t forget your first crush. Darius “Radius” Jackson put on a show against the Bengals, and it’s going to be very difficult to leave him off of this 53-man roster.
It was not a good night to be Mike White
Mike White (Miguel Blanco as the cool kids call him) did not have a night worth bragging about. We’ve grown accustomed to rookie quarterbacks playing well for the Cowboys (Dak Prescott and Cooper Rush) and were hopeful that White could continue that legacy.
Two preseason games in, our hopes are falling short.
Get well soon Zack Martin
The best guard in football re-emerged from the tunnel in the fourth quarter and he was wearing street clothes. We’re all remaining hopeful that some positive news trickles out soon regarding Zack. Please, please, and did I mention please?
Buckeyes turned professionals
As is customary in the NFL former teammates and friends gathered on the field postgame, including former The Ohio State Buckeyes. This list of course included Cowboys running backs Ezekiel Elliott and Rod Smith.
